Teaching Angle

Rotagrams

DIME Angle Geoff Giles
A rotagram is a deceptively simple device which helps children to understand the concept of angle by avoiding the danger of concentrating on numerical values too soon. It consists of two layers of clear plastic which rotate relative to each other and with it angles of any size can be set and preserved. Angles can be therefore compared without the necessity of assigning a precise numerical value to them first.

Rotagram Project Pack

DIME Angle Geoff Giles
This is an impressive and innovative way of teaching angle and it does so in a thoroughly tested and systematic fashion. A sequence of practical tasks and carefully thought out worksheets encourages children to estimate angles and then refine their answers. It deals with clockwise and anti-clockwise rotations, directions from a baseline and then leads on to work on bearings, compass readings and artificial 'real life' situations based on panoramas.
