Regular Tilings Project Pack
A structured investigation Geoff Giles

Tilings and tessellations are an important way of conveying to children an appreciation of the fundamental nature and wonder of mathematics. It shows how certain shapes fit together in a regular way to generate patterns with no gaps and that these patterns can continue for ever. This project pack includes six panels of colourful Plastazote, each devoted to a different tessellating shape. There are triangles, three kinds of quadrilateral, hexagons and pentagons with parallel sides. Included with each of the panels there is a workcard setting out a sequence of tasks. A set of teacher's notes puts the work on this topic into context and offers hints and suggestions about the tasks on the cards. £14.50 (+ VAT)

The Tessellations File
40 blackline masters with teacher's notes.

Chris de Cordova

The study of tessellations is an important part of any mathematics course and this collection includes all the regular and semi-regular tessellations as well as a wide variety of less formal ones. The introduction sets this topic into a teaching context and suggests how the ideas might be introduced in the classroom. £4.95

Polysymetrics
The art of making geometric patterns
0 906212 09 X
June Oliver

June Oliver shows how patterns can be built from 'tiles', which are squares, triangles or hexagons. She shows how to design tiles which are particularly interesting and which fit together to make attractive patterns. Included are twelve full pages of patterns to colour, together with their original tiles, giving a clear demonstration of the possibilities of the technique. £4.95 (No VAT on this product)

Kaleidometrics
The art of making beautiful patterns from circles

Sheilah Shaw

Sheilah Shaw has discovered a remarkable way to draw beautiful patterns and in this book, shows how it is done. She starts with circles and then explains how to draw special grids in them. From these grids she demonstrates how patterns are developed, giving an almost infinite range of possibilities. There are many of her patterns to colour and a selection of the grids, as well as advice and help, to create some truly original designs.

Mathematical Window Patterns
The art of paper geometry
1 899618 31 7
William Gibbs

This book is a splendid collection of beautiful patterns which can be created by arranging regular shapes, usually rectangles so that they overlap in a symmetrical way. When the finished design is placed on a window, the light shines through the one, two, three or more layers and the underlying structure is revealed in a most attractive fashion. These patterns are specially attractive if they are made from tinted paper. Full descriptions and plans are included. £4.95 (No VAT on this product)

Tessellations Poster
840x600mm

The investigation of tessellations is a part of most mathematics courses. This poster shows the three regular tessellations, the eight semi-regular and a further seven which are of particular interest in a teaching context. £3.53 (inc.VAT)

Tilings Posters
Each 840x600mm
Andrew Crompton

There is a particular delight in patterns which are made solely from a single repeating motif or tile. The pleasure is even greater when the motif is a representation of a living or mythical creature. Escher was a master at creating such creatures and so also is Andrew Crompton, as this pair of colourful posters demonstrates.

Sea-Life Tilings £3.53 (inc.VAT)

Animal Tilings £3.53 (inc.VAT)

Sketchmaster

Ruler, protractor and geometrical template, all in one. One of the long edges shows millimetres and the other whole centimetres labelled as a number line. A splendid and ingenious gadget that many children will love to use. It comes in a plastic wallet which is punched to fit into standard files. £2.50 (+ VAT)
