Rotagrams A rotagram is a deceptively simple device which helps children to understand the concept of angle by avoiding the danger of concentrating on numerical values too soon. It consists of two layers of clear plastic which rotate relative to each other and with it angles of any size can be set and preserved. Angles can be therefore compared without the necessity of assigning a precise numerical value to them first.
A circular angle measurer has advantages over the traditional semi-circular protractor. It emphasises the idea of angle as rotation and also reduces the confusion about which scale to read the angle from. The rotating cursor allows an observed angle to be fixed, recorded or transferred elsewhere. This version has a fine shirring elastic cursor which is easy to replace if it is broken.

Clear plastic circle divided into 100 percentage points . Useful for drawing pie charts.
This is our response to many requests for a simple circular protractor which is smaller than the angle measurer and which could fit easily into a pocket or pencil case.

This clever device is a splendid way to draw perfect circles and often produces a better result than an ordinary pair of compasses can. By pushing the point of a sharp pencil through one of the numbered holes, it is possible to draw quickly and accurately circles for any radius between 1mm and 100mm in 1mm steps. While many of its potential uses are immediately obvious, there is also available a freely photocopiable book Fun, Art and Geometry which offers lots of suggestions for taking things further. It is a pleasure to see what drawings can easily be produced using this ingenious invention. | Reflection Activities Project Pack Placing a card mirror vertically on one of the carefully chosen diagrams automatically creates an image which has line symmetry. The immediate task is to find exactly where to place the mirror so that the resulting image matches each of a series of alternative diagrams in turn. Starting in a simple way, this project pack gradually builds up an understanding of the properties of mirrors and of mirror symmetry. It is a popular, valuable and extremely well thought-out project . Contents of Reflection Activities Project Pack
Rotagram Project Pack This is an impressive and innovative way of teaching angle and it does so in a thoroughly tested and systematic fashion. A sequence of practical tasks and carefully thought out worksheets encourages children to estimate angles and then refine their answers. It deals with clockwise and anti-clockwise rotations, directions from a baseline and then leads on to work on bearings, compass readings and artificial 'real life' situations based on panoramas.
