Mathematical Models

Children love making these beautiful shapes which are such fun to decorate. Each model is printed on crisp white paper ready to cut out and glue together. There are at least 12 hours of enjoyment in each book and the finished models make a fine collection. There are plenty of suggestions and ideas for colouring and decoration.

Paper Polyhedra in Colour
A collection of 15 symmetrical mathematical models to cut out and glue together.
1 899618 23 6
Jenkins & Bear

A stimulating collection of pure mathematical shapes in vibrant colour. It includes the five platonic solids and a variety of interesting shapes derived from them.  All the models show a high degree of symmetry and harmony and the colours and shades often indicate which surfaces are parallel and help to draw attention to other geometrical relationships within the model.  £4.95 (inc VAT)

Advanced Polyhedra 1
The Final Stellation of the Icosahedron

1 899618 61 9 Jenkins & Bear

This beautiful model to cut out and glue together has sixty spikes, each with three faces, making 180 faces in all. It is coloured in twenty different colours each of which defines a plane surface and which is represented by nine faces. Looked at another way it has twelve clusters of five spikes showing the relationship with the dodecahedron. £3.20 (inc. VAT)

Advanced Polyhedra 2
The Sixth Stellation of the Icosahedron

1 899618 62 7
Jenkins & Bear

This beautiful model to cut out and glue together has twelve sharp spikes emerging from pentagonal cups and forming ten pairs of parallel planes, each in a different colour. None of these ten colours occurs more than once on any spike or cup. When completed, the polyhedron rests on a horizontal surface on just three spikes. £3.20 (inc. VAT)

Advanced Polyhedra 3
The Compound of Five Cubes

1 899618 63 5
Jenkins & Bear

This beautiful model to cut out and glue together is the result of arranging five interpenetrating cubes in a highly symmetrical way. Each cube is printed in its own colour and so it is easy to see that exactly two cubes meet at every vertex and that there are twelve surfaces defining each face of each cube. There is a strong internal frame and multiple divisions in the golden ratio to discover. £3.20 (inc. VAT)

Mathematical Models
0 906212 20 0 Cundy and Rollett

This is the classic book of detailed instructions for making a wide variety of mathematical models of all kinds. Complete nets are given for all regular Archimedean and stellated polyhedra together with a number of interesting compounds. There are sections on paper folding, dissections, curve stitching, linkages, the drawing of loci and envelopes and the construction of plane tessellations. The volume is fully illustrated with diagrams and photographs of models in paper and other materials and all have been successfully made and tested. £9.95

Polyhedron Models
0521 09859 9 Wenninger

This splendid book gives photographs and templates for all known polyhedra and is a source of interest and pleasure for all those fascinated by three-dimensional mathematical models. A must for every school library. (280pp paperback) £36.43 (inc. VAT)

The Fifty-Nine Icosahedra
1 899618 32 5 Coxeter et al

This is a completely new edition of the classic book which has been out of print for many years. The plans and illustrations of all 59 of the stellations of the icosahedron have been redrawn by Kate & David Crennell and there is a new introduction by Professor Coxeter. For a thorough understanding of the process of stellation and for splendid examples of beautiful polyhedra, this book will be a valuable addition to any mathematics library. £6.95

Polyhedra Poster
(
840x600mm)

Nineteen polyhedra are shown in a dramatic and colourful way, making this poster a must when mathematical models are being made or discussed. It shows all the Platonic solids, the Kepler-Poinsot regular solids, the Semi-regular or Archimedean solids and four regular compounds. £3.53 (inc. VAT)

Nets and Solids Poster
(840x600mm)

A colourful demonstration of the relationship between three-dimensional solids and their two-dimensional nets. A useful poster for naming and becoming familiar with common shapes. £3.53 (inc. VAT)

The Platonic Solids
0 9535399 1 1
John Parker

This is a reference and resource book for secondary school teachers. It contains over 500 diagrams together with detailed instructions for making not only the basic solids but also many other associated solids. Some are simple but instructive and can be made by pupils of all abilities, while others will be of interest to pupils who are mathematically gifted. Many could provide material for group projects and this is a book which would find a place in any mathematical library. £15.86 (inc.VAT)
