Polydron

Well established in most schools over the last 10 years, this tough material can be used to construct an enormous variety of shapes. Whether used for constructive play or for investigation and geometrical exploration, this material has a place in every mathematics classroom.

Frameworks

Made from the same tough plastic as polydron and completely compatible with it, these units allow the construction of open sided polyhedra. They can also replace some solid faces of a Polydron polyhedron to allow access to the interior.

Mathematics with Polydron

This book is a collection of teacher's notes and reproducible worksheets suggesting many different investigations into three-dimensional space using polydron materials. The later suggestions reach quite an advanced and demanding level. £14.95

Platonics Solids Set
Polydron 10 3000

Sufficient polydron triangles, squares, and pentagons to build a complete set of the platonics solids, namely the tetrahedron, octahedron, cube, dodecahedron and icosahedron. Price per pack £18.99 (+ VAT)

Geomag
Construction Kit

The strong magnets inside the colourful struts and beautiful polished steel ball-bearing joints together make it possible to construct geometrical polyhedra and other three-dimensional shapes in a uniquely different way. This is expensive material but splendid to handle and very satisfying to use. The kit contains 64 ball-bearing joints and 30 struts in each of four colours.

Geodesic Domes Demonstrated and explained with cut-out models
0 906212 92 8
Borin Van Loon

Each of the models in this book is both beautiful and interesting to make and plays its part as a hands-on introduction to the study of geodesic domes. It was the American architect Buckminster Fuller who pioneered this type of building and who also helped to establish a sound basis for designing them. With the aid of its models, this book explains the underlying theory and shows how a sphere can be divided and subdivided symmetrically to create dramatic buildings which are light and strong and also have no need of internal support. £6.95 (No.VAT on this product)

Interlocking Cubes

These plastic one-centimetre cubes also weigh one gramme and can be used for counting, weighing and estimating. They also interlock. The cubes are in 10 different colours.
Tub of 500
£14.95 (+ VAT)

Power Polygons

This collection includes 450 multicoloured pieces in robust plastic in 15 different shapes including several kinds of square, triangle and rhombus. Also a hexagon and a rectangle. Some of the triangles are right-angled and the pieces have been carefully sized so that they can fit together in many different ways. Each of them has a capital letter stamped on to it, making it easier to refer to. Once sufficient time has been allowed for unstructured play, these power polygons can be used for classification, sorting, perimeters ,areas and fractions amongst other topics. £25.95 (+VAT)

Unit Cube Base Board

A 10cm by 10 cm grid forms a firm base for the interlocking cubes above. They also hinge together to make larger areas.

Exploring with Power Polygons

A collection of ideas for lessons and investigations using the geometrical properties of the 15 shapes. £7.95

Idea Book for Cuisenaire Rods
0 914040 18 9 Patricia Davidson This substantial book for teachers is full of good ideas and is a very valuable resource for anyone contemplating introducing Cuisenaire rods into the classroom. It starts with simple play suggestions and then shows step by step how to use them to develop and strengthen the concept of number. Ideas too for work on symmetry. £19.95

Cuisenaire Rods

These wooden rods are of 1 cm square cross-section and are in ten different colours each of a different unit length. They can therefore represent in a concrete way the whole numbers from 1 to 10. Use them for practical work on number bonds and their relationships and for a simple demonstration of addition and subtraction. The set of 155 rods comes in a plastic tub with a leaflet offering a few suggestions for classroom use. £17.95 (+ VAT)

Pattern Blocks

Each set of pattern blocks contains six shapes each in its own colour. There are hexagons, squares, equilateral triangles, two kinds of rhombus with 30° and 60° angles and a trapezium. The pieces are 5 mm thick and precision made so that they fit together very well indeed.

Pattern Blocks (250) £13.95 (+ VAT)

Pattern Blocks Activity Cards £10.50 (+ VAT)
